Mindy has been performing since the age of eight. Her original goal in life was to be the world’s first “Singing Heart Surgeon”. Unfortunately, medical school didn’t pan out; so she decided to heal the world through music and as a result, she has been studying different vocal techniques her entire life. Currently, Mindy is a level four Speech Level Singing instructor. Mindy has studied with many state, nationally and internationally renowned vocal instructors including: John Henny, Dean Kaelin, Jeffrey Skouson, David Stroud, Greg Enriquez and legendary, Seth Riggs. She has also studied with several renowned classical instructors, such as: Dyanne Riley, Ed Thompson, the late Robert Peterson and Betty Jeanne Chipman,. Mindy has also attended workshops, private seminars, lectures and master classes with some of the top vocal scientists. As a direct result of her focus on vocal instruction and technique, Mindy was awarded Vocal Scholarships to both the University of Utah and Utah Valley State College.
Mindy is currently the chairman of the board for Vocology In Practice which provides education, training and mentorship to voice teachers all over the world and networking with top industry professionals.
In 2012, Mindy entered the Scott Alan, “I’m A Star Competition” and was on of the top 14 finalists internationally. This allowed her to sing and record on the Scott Alan’s “Live from Birdland” CD which featured some of Broadway’s top artists such as Stephanie J. Block, Sierra Boggess, Liz Callaway, Kerry Ellis, Ben Fanhauser, Richard Fleeshman, Hadley Fraser, Christopher Jackson, Jeremy Jordan, Mykal Kilgore, Caissie Levy, Christiane Noll, Jane Monheit, Julia Murney, Laura Osnes, Pentatonix, Lea Salonga, Natalie Weiss, as well as recording artists Marc Broussard and RJ Helton. In 2010, Mindy had the privilege to attend the set of Glee; where she was able to meet the cast and crew, speak with the director and producer and experience first hand the inner workings of the show so that she could bring back what she learned to Salt Lake City to help her students and productions. Mindy’s recent theater productions include; Musical Director for “Beauty and The Beast”, “Anything Goes”, co-director for “Come Fly With Me”, which debuted at the Sandy Amphitheater, “Glee, Don’t Stop Believing” for the Midvale Theater and a cabaret show she wrote called “Frightmares” at the Egyptian Theater.
Mindy loves having her students experience the feel of Broadway and takes groups of students back to New York regularly to take master classes, private lessons, and behind the scenes tours from some of the top musical theater professionals in New York City.
Mindy is the head vocal instructor for the London School of Guitar, which hosted an intensive summer camp for aspiring artists and joined the teaching staff with artists such as Ace Freshley of Kiss, Sonny Landreth and Jim Fairchild of Modest Mouse and Kalai. Mindy is the current student service director for the VocalizeU summer program, which takes place in Hollywood California. This is a music intensive program for artists from all over the world who want to make it in the music world. Mindy was on staff with some of the industries top music professionals such as Boko Suzuki, Big Billy Clark, Joshua Alamu, Patrick Leonard, and many more. Mindy was also the student service director for the Seth Riggs Speech Level Singing Camp from 2005-2009. While working at the camp In 2009, Mindy was asked to join the teaching staff of the prestigious Summer Vocal Program in Hollywood, where she joined an “all star” teaching staff including, RAab Stevenson (style coach to Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Michelle Rundgren, Wayne Brady, Rachel Lampa, Rob Seals and music producer Pat Leonard. Mindy was also a singing, dancing and performance coach at Clayton Productions for over ten years where she had the privilege of teaching over 700 students. In 2005, Mindy teamed up with the much sought after and professional performance academy “On Stage Productions” where she was co-owner and director of Utah’s premier singing, dancing and performance studio until October 2008. In 2006, Mindy had the opportunity to travel on tour with Disney’s “The CHEETAH Girls” as one of their vocal coaches. Mindy has been honored with numerous awards, including superior ratings in Federation and NATS festivals, Woman of the year at Utah Valley State College, and several studio recognitions both locally and internationally
Mindy’s performing career has taken her all over the world. In addition to performing nationally and on Broadway at the famed Birdland Theater, she has had the privilege and pleasure of performing throughout England, France, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Venezuela and Japan. Nationally, she has been hired to perform for NASCAR, Friendship Ambassadors, the 2002 Utah Winter Olympics, USANA, Collin Raye, Children’s Miracle Network, Boys and Girls Clubs as well as many other conventions and events throughout the United States. In addition to shows she herself has produced, directed and music directed, she has also held numerous leads in school, community and professional theater productions.
Mindy is the creator of one of the top Education Apps called Voice Tutor. This App has been in the top 100 best education Apps on the I-Tunes charts for the past two years. This App allows singers who are beginners or advanced to have the convenience of having a virtual voice teacher in the palm of their hand. Definitions and tools to understand how the voice works, warm-up and cool downs, and a technique section for perfecting and strengthen their voice. Her partner in the App is the legendary style coach Robert (RAab) Stevenson who has taken some of the worlds most popular riff n runs and made it possible for singers to find the agility and style in their own voice. This App helps artist build their voices, find flexibility, and help them discover their own and unique vocal finger print.
As a teacher, Mindy’s main goal is to help students discover their own voice so that they can feel positive about themselves and their talent. Building self-esteem is the number one priority! Whether your goal is to sing in church, audition for a play, learn to speak correctly, be the next American Idol or have professional aspirations, regardless of your age or level, Mindy can refine your craft.
