David Drockton
David has been singing and entertaining audiences since the age of 4. He first began his professional studies at 15 with a local Opera instructor. At the age of 18, David was accepted into the competitive Vocal Performance Program at Depauw University with both Vocal and Academic scholarships. At Depauw David performed as a soloist under the expertise of Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt, one of the world’s greatest Choral Conductors. Amidst touring with a Chamber ensemble across the Midwest and Northeast States, David also played the role of Mercury in Depauw’s production of Orphee aux Enfers. At the conclusion of his freshman year David realized that his true passion lay in performing and writing his own music rather than singing someone else’s. At a mentor’s suggestion, David sought out a Speech Level instructor to help him realize this goal. One lesson was all it took to sell him on the benefits of the Speech Level Singing technique, and he has been studying with Linda Tomkinson (a level 5 instructor) ever since! Linda has helped David to explore many other genres while building a rock solid technique that he can rely on. Since that time David has been invited to perform at various community and charity events as a soloist in the genres of classical crossover, musical theater, alternative/indie rock, and classic rock to name a few. Again, at Linda’s suggestion David took on teaching others as a career; he has been teaching professionally for the past four years. He brings not only a wealth of technical and performance experience to the table, but also an extensive network of local musicians and instructors. David is not only a teacher but also a singer-songwriter: front man of the local band StarBorn. David has the following goals for each student: “I intend to give each student the technical foundation to unlock the full range and power of their voice to sing any genre they choose with ease. I intend that each student not only find his or her voice, but also the confidence to enrich the community with their gift.” David’s students have been featured on Good Day Utah, played in pre-shows for major rock acts, toured as a signed artist on a major indie label, been cast in Broadway productions, and have performed at various venues across the world.
